Kripalu School of Ayurveda: Before You Apply
written assignments
Students are required to complete homework assignments between training segments and hand them in for review. The assignments are designed to reinforce the material learned during class time and allow students to apply knowledge of Ayurvedic principles to a wide variety of situations and practices. Successful and timely completion of homework is an integral component of the learning process and certification.
attendance
Attendance is required and will be a factor in determining the final grade. Students will be asked to check in at the beginning of each session.
grading
Demonstrating mastery of the material covered in the program through successful completion of written and practical exams and submission of homework assignments is mandatory and will be used to evaluate student progress and the ability to retain and integrate course material. Homework must be handed in at the beginning of each session. Attendance will also be considered when determining final grade.
student conduct
Students are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner during all components of this training. They are also required to adhere to the Kripalu Code of Ethics, the Responsibility Agreement, and the Criteria for Certification Agreement (included in the application download). If a complaint is made against a student in the training program, the Dean of the Kripalu School of Ayurveda will conduct an investigation as appropriate.
admissions
Kripalu School of Ayurveda is committed to maintaining the experiential depth and high standards of professionalism that distinguish all Kripalu programs. The school does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, disability, gender, marital or family status, nationality, religion, or sexual preference. In determining an applicant’s suitability to be trained as a helping professional, the Admissions Committee considers all factors necessary to safeguard the well-being of the public, other students, and the KSA staff. If an applicant feels that his or her application has been wrongly denied, the issue can be raised with the Director of Professional Trainings, whose decision will be final.
application process
Upon receipt of an application and an interview with the KSA Dean, either by phone or in person, the Admissions Committee will make a decision about a candidate’s acceptance. We will then notify you as to your acceptance.
prerequisites
Applicants must have a high school diploma and be able to read and write in English. Experience with yoga is required. Training in Western anatomy and physiology is required for graduation from the Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant program. This requirement may be met with at least two semesters of college-level anatomy and physiology, or by completing at least 100 hours of other anatomy and physiology training. The anatomy and physiology requirement does not apply to the Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist program. Certification as an Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist requires completion of a 200-hour yoga teacher training in advance of the program.

student complaint procedure
From time to time differences in interpretation of school policies may arise among students, faculty, and/or the administration. When such disputes occur, a major contributing factor is usually a miscommunication or misunderstanding. Both Kripalu Center and KSA put a premium on conscious communication and urge both students and staff to communicate any problems that arise directly to the individual(s) involved. If the problem cannot be resolved in this manner, the KSA Dean should be contacted. Normally, these informal procedures will lead to a resolution. If the complaint cannot be resolved in this way, the student may contact the Director of Professional Trainings. If the matter remains unresolved, students may contact the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office of Proprietary Schools, 350 Main St, Malden MA 02148-5023, or proprietaryschools@doe.mass.edu.
